Well this is definitely significant news. It appears that a company located in Rosemount, MN has decided to mint a 50 Vatu collectors coin for the Republic of Vanuatu with US President Barack Obama's face on it! I have to admit I am bemused by this and honestly wonder if they have government authorization to do so?
Given the slang use of the word "fifty" in Bislama it really begs to question the validity of this move. In checking the Reserve Banks website they are not listing this pictured coin on their website located here. I look forward to the official announcement from the RBV on this particular notable piece of news. However there is one reason why it might have validity. This is because the RBV's collectible coin collection only features 50 Vatu coins.
